Mike Scott | Principal Planner
Mike’s experience as a planner includes work in both local and central government and private consultancy. Throughout all of those roles, Mike has shown a passion for ensuring that rights and interests of iwi and hapū are properly recognised and provided for in decision-making. Mike has well-developed experience across a broad range of planning topics at both district and regional level, giving him a deep understanding of the inner workings of local government and of plan development, and a wealth of connections across the country.
Mike also has a background in adult language teaching, is a competent speaker of several languages, and continues on a very long and rewarding journey with te reo Māori. He is passionate about the redevelopment of New Zealand cities to make them better places to live, work and play while reducing the impact on the natural world. When Mike is not busy with his three kids, he is often either salsa dancing or working on his latest woodwork or art project.
Mike's areas of expertise include:
-
Policy evaluation and development, at district and regional level
-
Working alongside iwi and hapū to develop methods and approaches to provide for their rights and interests within planning documents
-
Negotiating outcomes for council, Treaty partners, stakeholders and private applicants on resource management issues
-
Presenting expert evidence to hearing panels on both plan development and resource consent matters
