The why!
McCallum Bros Ltd sought resource consents from Auckland Regional Council to continue large-scale off-shore sand mining in the coastal area around Mangawhai Heads in Northland.
How did we assist?
TCG supported these groups through the consent process, providing expert witnesses from both a planning and effects-management perspective, and undertook an expert assessment of biological values present at the proposed off-shore site.
What happened?
The consent was declined by the Environment Court on the basis of the evidence advanced by our clients. A series of appeal processes are ongoing; and TCG has been appointed to provide oversight and facilitate the expert panel established to review the 4-year temporary consent granted - a process that allows for matāuranga Māori and other technical expert input that will help build the knowledge base to inform future decisions around resource use in this unique marine environment.
